IFREMER (French Institute for the Research and Exploitation of the Sea, staff: 1400 employees based in various locations in France and overseas) seeks applicants at the ‘Fishery Biology laboratory’ in Lorient, Brittany (part of the research unit ‘Fishery science and Technology’) for a full-time permanent position of   Fishery Scientist m/f   Within the research unit, you will contribute to develop research and enhance the stock assessment skills mainly applied on demersal and benthic fisheries of the Celtic sea and the Bay of Biscay (anglerfish, gadoids…).   The position also includes contributing to the development and evaluation of multi annual fisheries management plans, including socio-economic impacts, in collaboration with economists. Some projects will also include taking into account recreational fisheries in stock assessment. You will design or improve models for fisheries resources management, according to the ecosystemic approach.   Among the tasks related to this position, you will also carry out stock assessments within international (ICES/STECF) working groups by using data from the Ifremer fisheries database.
